My Favorite Laguna Hike

I'd like to share with you one of my favorite hidden spots in Laguna: Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park!

While hordes of vacationers flock to the expansive stretches of beach, consider the fact that there are two sides to Pacific Coast Highway.  Yes, there are the beaches on one side.  But once you've had enough of the crowds, try crossing the road and embarking on one of the many hiking trails you see etched in the hills overlooking the city.  Once again, you can follow the masses to places like Alta Laguna Park...OR you can head to Aliso Peak for what I humbly consider the greatest view in town.

The hike is fairly steep, but it only takes 10 to 15 minutes to reach the top—and it is definitely worth it!  The first fork you come to will look like this:

If you head right for higher ground, you'll reach the ugly housing developments that plague Laguna's ridge lines.  Instead, go left until you reach the next fork, at which point you should go to the right toward "Aliso Summit."  You'll know you've reached your destination when you see the bench overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  More likely than not, you will be alone on that outlook, so take a seat and breath in that fresh ocean air.

How green is this valley
I come here to meditate, to blow off steam, and to bask in unrivaled sunsets.  I hope I have inspired you to ditch the beach for an hour and head for the hills!

And for those of you hipsters on the hunt for music that hasn't gone mainstream yet, check out Mansuit, Matthew Walsh's captivating solo project.  Do yourselves a favor and give it a listen HERE!

Speaking of fellow USC songwriters with angelic voices, I would be remiss if I did not mention Gian Visciano, another supremely talented musician.  Check out his stuff on his tumblr.

I took a songwriting course with both of these guys at USC, and although we never got to collaborate during our time there, I have long admired their music.  Sounds great, guys!

Signing off,

Graham
